Description

Before conquering the global pop charts with “Rose Garden,” legendary country music artist Lynn Anderson solidified her place among country royalty with her brilliant second studio masterpiece, Promises, Promises. Released in early 1968 by Chart Records (CHS-1004), the album was a monumental success, spending 48 weeks on the Billboard charts and climbing all the way to number one on the Top Country Albums chart.

Recorded at the historic RCA Victor Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, the sessions were expertly co-produced by Chart Records founder Slim Williamson and legendary steel guitar virtuoso Lloyd Green. Backed by clean, authentic Nashville Sound arrangements, the album features early career-defining hits written by Lynn’s mother, Liz Anderson, including the snappy title track “Promises, Promises” (which peaked at #4) and the driving, emotional “No Another Time” (which hit #8). The 12-track project masterfully highlights Anderson’s immense vocal versatility, blending original honky-tonk material with spirited covers of Roy Orbison’s “Crying,” Warner Mack’s fast-talking “I’ve Been Everywhere,” and Dottie West’s “Paper Mansions.” This vintage 12-inch 33 RPM stereo LP provides an incredibly warm, punchy analog listening experience that remains a cornerstone of late-1960s traditional country history.

Tracklist:

  • Side A: Promises, Promises; The Worst Is Yet To Come; No Another Time; Crying; Love Of The Common People; A Penny For Your Thoughts.

  • Side B: I’ve Been Everywhere; Paper Mansions; Two Rolls Of Scotch Tape; Sing Me A Sad Song; A Hundred Times Today; Lie A Little.

Housed in its original vintage cardboard sleeve featuring historical liner notes written by country music peer Bill Anderson, this beautifully preserved pressing is a premier centerpiece acquisition for serious traditional country music collectors and classic vinyl enthusiasts alike.
